Thanks for another great year of Conference at CITRENZ 2023

Chairs report from Hamish Smith:

In September CITRENZ 2023 Conference was hosted by Unitec / Te Pūkenga in Auckland.

There were 71 submissions, with 48 submissions accepted. This included 21 papers and 24 Posters.

My congratulations to the best paper winners that are as follows:-

1. Embracing the use of Generative AI in a First Year Information Systems Course

Angela Martin, Trevor Nesbit

Feedback: The concept of engaging students not only in using ChatGPT but also encouraging peer discussions, critical analysis of its responses, and relating them to individual cultural contexts is highly commendable. Your initiative has the potential to serve as a valuable model for diverse courses and assignments across different educational levels.

2. Assessment Validity in the Era of AI Generative Tools

Eltahir Kabbar, Bashar Barmada

Feedback: This paper systematically explores the evolving education landscape in the era of GenAI. Although in early steps, the presented risk identification framework offers a direction for educators navigating the integration of AI Generative tools.

Also to the best poster:-

AMF-Sec Validation Scenario for Allied Telesis Labs

Flynn Hansen; Ian Patterson; David A Weir

Feedback: A project supervised by industry with practical and research impact. The contribution is clear and shows a strong understanding of both the technologies used and the design methodologies. Design framework and methodologies are clearly outlined, and the authors share relevant referencing.

Well done to all winners and great to see such fantastic feedback.

Thank you so much to the teams at Unitec and ITPNZ for organising the conference. All your mahi provided a fantastic conference experience for those that attended.

Ngā mihi,

CITRENZ (Computing & Information Technology Research and Education New Zealand)

Aotearoa’s premiere computing education conference is back for 2023!

Tertiary education is changing. The transformation of ITPs into Te Pūkenga and the development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) are two big changes that are happening right now. These changes present both opportunities and challenges for the field of education.

This conference will explore the latest trends in technology and education, embracing all computing disciplines and paving the way for a future-driven workforce. We will have keynote speakers, social networking sessions, and participants from industry. This year, the conference is being held face-to-face on 27-29 September at the Unitec-Te Pūkenga main campus in Mt Albert, Auckland, New Zealand. We hope to see you there!

Collective Intelligence: Exploring Mahi Kotahitanga in Computing

That’s the theme of CITRENZ 2023. Authors are invited to submit full papers, short papers, posters, panels, and workshops for presentation and publication. The proceedings will be open access published by Unitec ePress (TBC) and will be indexed by NZ Research Bank and Google Scholar. This is an opportunity for adding to your PBRF portfolios.

CITRENZ is the premiere computing education conference in New Zealand and spans all disciplines of computing and information technology education. While focusing on tertiary education, it also provides links from secondary education and further into the computing industry. The conference regularly attracts more than 100 attendees from all over New Zealand as well as international delegates. This conference is open to all educators, professionals, and researchers in the wider computing and information technology community.
